Digital Himalaya
"The Digital Himalaya project was conceived ... as a strategy for archiving and making available valuable ethnographic materials from the Himalayan region. The Digital Himalaya project was conceived of by Professor Alan Macfarlane and Dr. Mark Turin as a strategy for archiving and making available valuable ethnographic materials from the Himalayan region. Based jointly at the Department of Social Anthropology at Cambridge University and the Anthropology Department at Cornell University, the project began in December 2000. Five ethnographic collections representing a broad range of regions, ethnic groups, time periods, and themes were slated for digitisation in the first phase of the project, along with a set of maps of Nepal and important journals on Himalayan studies."

This "global collaborative effort to make important and rare resources available to the international community" is a comprehensive library of digital resources on South Asia. Resources include images, maps, statistics, references, and indices, among others.

Durham University, Oriental Museum: Indian Paintings & Textiles
Online database currently featuring 48 textile objects and 336 visual works from the museum's collection of Indian art. Images do not enlarge, but most have short descriptions.

The Frick Collection: Chinese Porcelains
Featuring more than 250 objects from the museum's collection of Chinese porcelains, which "date from the Ming and Ch'ing dynasties and embrace a range of types including blue and white, famille verte, famille noire, and famille rose."

The Gitter-Yelen Art Study Center: The Manyo'an Collection of Japanese Art
"The Manyo'an Collection of Japanese Art focuses on Edo-period (1615–1868) works in the Zenga, Nanga, Rinpa, Maruyama-Shijo, Ukiyoe, and Eccentric styles with an increasing focus on 20th century paintings and ceramics." Excellent high-quality images that show an incredible amount of detail. Currently there are 562 artworks online, presented as a set of Collection Tours, but also indexed by Artist, School/Kiln, Subject, Media, Publication, Exhibition, and Period/Date.

Henan Museum: Collection
Selection of about 50 objects unearthed at various archaeological sites throughout Henan, including bronzeware, porcelain and earthenware vessels and figurines, stone and jade carvings, and other artifacts, including oracle bones. The range objects cover all the historical periods from the Shang to the Yuan.

Every image enlarges, some with an excellent zoom tool, and many images have excellent, in-depth descriptions. Hong Kong Museum of Art: Chinese Art & Antiquities Collection
Featuring more than 120 selected works from the Hong Kong Museum's collection, grouped into the following six categories: 1) Chinese Antiquities; 2) Chinese Fine Art; 3) Historical Pictures (featuring many works by Western artists in China); 4) Hong Kong Art (20th century); 5) Teaware and Seals; and 6) Chinese Painting and Calligraphy. These six categories all feature 20 representative objects with full descriptions. There is also a Collections Databank with thousands of objects organized by type.
