Windows into China's History: A Resource Guide for Students and Teachers
"This teacher’s guide has been produced by the Education Department of the Bowers Museum in conjunction with the exhibition Treasures from Shanghai: 5000 Years of Chinese Art and Culture (February 18 - August 19, 2007) and its on-going permanent gallery of Chinese history. The information included is intended to provide resources to educators and students who wish to learn about the art, history and culture of China and as preparation for their tour to the museum. It is designed to introduce many of the art works in their historical context by outlining the major periods in Chinese history as highlighted in the exhibition and integrating the art works into each period. Each historical period includes a Cultural Spotlight, which explores an aspect of Chinese culture that developed or was very significant in that period, and/or an Art Spotlight, which focuses on a particularly remarkable art work from that period. These Spotlights are intended to provide educators with a sense of the cultural and artistic significance of these particular works of art."
